The guide and driver were excellent and the scenery outstanding. There is so much to see and enjoy in East Java. Ijen was rugged, wild and beautiful. Bromo lived up to its reputation and was a manifestation of the awesome destructive and rejuvenating power of a volcano. Kalibaru provided a good rest in between. We also bought 16 bottles of local honey derived from the wild forests. These honey have their sources from a wide range of flora and are therefore superior. I am conscience bound, however, to report an incident that occurred regarding the orang utan Percy and one of the deckhands and a client from another boat. I had stayed back on our boat one morning nursing a scraped knee. As I was reading on the floor cushion, I looked up to see a client from the boat next to ours giving Percy a plastic container box with cookies inside. As Percy tried to open the container, the deckhand poured a liquid from a mug into Percy's mouth. When Percy raised up his arm for more, the deckhand danced around, hid the cup behind him, and teased Percy mercilessly. This went on for quite some time and the guys were laughing and shouting. I was enraged and stood up, catching the eye of the client. The client slunk back to his boat. (The deckhand was still too busy jumping around and teasing Percy to see me). I told my husband about my outrage when he returned with Noval. My husband told Noval but did not get the impression that the matter would be reported; hence my e-mail to you. I have attached a picture of the deckhand. I hope you will recognize him and take appropriate disciplinary action.
