Located in transitional zone between the continents of Asia and Australia, Sulawesi island is blessed with a lot of species of endemic flora and fauna. Some of them are kingfishers.

Here is the photograph of Green-backed Kingfisher (Actenoides monachus) in Tangkoko Nature Reserve of North Sulawesi. This bird has got orange bill, white throat, and rufous underparts. The head of this Green-backed Kingfisher is bright azure blue in central and north could be found in Central and North Sulawesi. In Southern Sulawesi, the head of the bird is black. It was considered as subspecies of Green-backed Kingfisher - Black-headed (Actenoides monachus capucinus).
Sulawesi Lilac Kingfisher (Cittura cyanotis) is another species of kingfisher that we can find in Sulawesi Island. This bird lives in lowland and hill rainforest up to 1,000 meters above sea level.

Sulawesi Lilac Kingfisher eats insects. It likes to sit motionless on a lower branch of a tree waiting for its pray. The above picture was taken on a hill in the forest of Tangkoko Nature Reserve.
Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx fallax) is a small kingfisher that lives in tropical moist forest of Sulawesi island. The bird lives in lower branches of trees. Its bill and underparts ar orange. The cap of its head is scaled blue. The throat is white whereas its tail and rump are bright blue.

Scaly-breasted Kingfisher(Actenoides princeps) is another endemic bird of that lives in higher elevation forest of Sulawesi island. The male has got dark blue head. The underparts are white with scale pattern. The back is brown with scale pattern.The female one has got yellowish brown eyebrow and moustached.

Great-billed Kingfisher (Pelargopsis melanorhyncha) lives in coastal area of Sulawesi island especially along the river sides, and in mangrove forest.They eat fish to survive.
